Bringing Reusable Packaging to Portland
At Kroger, offering our customers more sustainable choices is one of the objectives of our ESG strategy, Thriving Together. Our partnership with Loop, the innovative reusable packaging platform, is an example of how we are bringing this to life. Now, customers visiting our Fred Meyer stores in the Portland metro area can shop an assortment of products in Loop-ready packaging.
About the Loop Platform
Loop is a global shopping platform geared toward eliminating waste while also providing convenience for consumers. Loop allows customers to easily purchase popular everyday products in reusable, durable packaging, which they can return for cleaning and reuse once they’ve enjoyed the contents.
About the Products
Our customers can browse a variety of products in our Loop assortment, including several well-known food and household brands—from tea and baby food to hand soap and dishwasher detergent. Products are packaged in durable, reusable containers that can be washed multiple times in Loop’s state-of-the-art cleaning facility before being repackaged and returned to circulation.
How It Works
Each product in the Loop assortment has an associated deposit, which is charged to the customer when they check out at the register. After customers enjoy the Loop products, they can bring the empty packages back to a Loop collection bin at one of the participating Fred Meyer stores. By using the Loop App on their smartphone, customers can scan the items, check them into the machine and receive a refund for the deposit they paid at check out.
