Longstanding Partnership Between Kroger’s Family of Stores and Salvation Army More Important Than Ever This Year

Red Kettle Bell Ringers Will Be At Stores Throughout The Holidays To Raise Funds

CINCINNATI, Ohio, November 25, 2008 – The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR) and its family of stores are once again supporting The Salvation Army’s annual Red Kettle campaign this holiday season.

The traditional red kettle has become a meaningful part of the holiday scene at Kroger with customers and associates contributing $9.4 million to the Salvation Army in 2007.

"The Salvation Army is so grateful for the long-standing kettle campaign partnership with Kroger and their customers who put their hard-earned dollars and change into Salvation Army kettles," said Major George Hood, National Community Relations Secretary for The Salvation Army. "The need is greater than ever this year and the funds we raise through our red kettles make a real difference in the lives of people in local communities across America."

The Red Kettle campaign enables the Salvation Army to assist more than 35 million Americans in over 5,000 communities across the country. In keeping with the spirit of the season, donations provide holiday dinners, clothing, and toys for needy families, as well as a broad range of social services. All funds collected stay in the community where the donations are made. For more information, please visit www.salvationarmyusa.org.
