GIORDANO PROMOTED TO PRESIDENT OF QUALITY FOOD CENTERS

CINCINNATI, OH, November 15, 2002 -- The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR) today announced that Donna Giordano has been promoted to president of Quality Food Centers, which operates 86 stores in Oregon and Washington. She succeeds Darrell Webb, who was recently appointed president of Fred Meyer Stores in Portland, Oregon.

Ms. Giordano, 48, previously served as vice president of sales and marketing for King Soopers, based in Denver. She had held that position since 1999. Ms. Giordano joined King Soopers in 1972 as a courtesy clerk and later was promoted to store management. She also has held several significant management positions in the bakery, pharmacy and advertising departments at the division office.

"Donna is a very talented retail executive with significant management experience at both the store and division levels," said David B. Dillon, Kroger president and chief operating officer. "She has played an important role in building King Soopers' business and we're confident that she will bring that same leadership to QFC."
