KROGER AND UFCW LOCAL 1996 REACH
TENTATIVE LABOR AGREEMENTS COVERING 16,000 ASSOCIATES
CINCINNATI, OH, October 21, 2005 – The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR) today said it has reached tentative agreements on two new 52-month contracts with the United Food & Commercial Workers Union Local 1996 in Atlanta and Savannah, Georgia.
The tentative agreements cover approximately 16,000 Kroger associates at 175 stores, located primarily in Georgia. These contracts, when ratified, will provide for excellent wages and benefits that will enable Kroger to maintain or improve its competitiveness with other retailers in the market.
The UFCW will present the tentative agreements to its members for ratification. Kroger has been told by the UFCW that the union will recommend ratification of the contracts to its membership.
“These agreements represent balanced solutions that provide Kroger associates with the competitive wages and affordable, high-quality health care benefits they need, at a cost that is fair to everyone involved, including our customers,” said Bruce Lucia, president of Kroger’s Atlanta Division. “No one provides better service than Kroger, thanks to the great work of our associates.
