KROGER NAMES RICK GOING PRESIDENT OF NEW MICHIGAN DIVISION

CINCINNATI, Ohio, September 19, 2007 – The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR) today announced it has named Rick Going President of the Company’s new Michigan division, effective immediately.

Mr. Going, who joined Kroger in 1981, will oversee Kroger’s store operations in Michigan. Kroger currently operates 138 stores in the state.

“Rick brings extensive experience in operations and merchandising to this new role. We look forward to his leadership as he works with our associates to build on Kroger’s growth in Michigan by focusing on our customers to create even better shopping experiences for them,” said Don McGeorge, Kroger’s president and chief operating officer.

During his 26-year career with Kroger, Mr. Going has held a number of leadership positions at the store, district and division level and has served as Vice President of Retail Operations and Vice President of Merchandising for Kroger’s Cincinnati/Dayton division.
