KROGER JOINS AMERICAN RED CROSS, SALVATION ARMY AND LOCAL BLOOD BANKS TO SUPPORT RESCUE AND RELIEF EFFORTS
The Kroger Co. has joined forces with The American Red Cross, The Salvation Army and local blood banks to support rescue and relief efforts following the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.
Kroger’s 2,380 stores across the country are accepting cash donations for the Red Cross or the Salvation Army. In addition, the Salvation Army has placed its well-known red kettles, which usually appear only during the holidays, in front of many Kroger stores to accept donations for disaster relief. Kroger also is making arrangements with the Salvation Army to ship truckloads of bottled water to emergency workers in Manhattan.
Kroger also has been helping local blood banks that have been overwhelmed by people wanting to donate blood. Kroger has provided snacks and juice for donors, as well as coolers that the blood banks can use to store blood.
Kroger stores have sold out its inventory of American flags. Several Kroger divisions are selling paper flags for $1.00 with proceeds being donated to the Salvation Army and the Red Cross as a way of giving customers an outlet to express their sympathy for those killed by the terrorists and their solidarity with the American people.
