KROGER AND KRAFT FOODS PARTNER TO SUPPORT LOCAL COMMUNITIES
With Help from Customers, They Donate More Than $600,000 to Non-Profit Organizations
CINCINNATI, OH, August 6, 2003 -- The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR) and Kraft Foods (NYSE: KFT) today announced that they will contribute more than $600,000 to non-profit organizations in communities served by Kroger, thanks to the help of customers across the country.
Local schools, hunger relief agencies, children's hospitals, and youth programs will benefit from the contributions, made on behalf of the "Charity of Choice" campaign. The donation is based on the volume of qualifying Kraft products purchased by shoppers at Kroger, Dillon, Fry's, King Soopers, City Market and Food 4 Less Midwest stores during a special promotion earlier this year. A total of 13 Company divisions participated in the campaign.
"This promotion is a great way for Kroger, Kraft Foods and our customers to provide meaningful support to local non-profit groups that are facing constant financial challenges created by an uncertain economy," said Lynn Marmer, Kroger group vice president of corporate affairs.
