SMITH’S AND UFCW LOCAL 1564
REACH FULLY-RECOMMENDED TENTATIVE AGREEMENT

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico, June 8, 2009 – Smith’s Food & Drug announced today it has reached a tentative agreement on a new contract with the United Food & Commercial Workers Union Local 1564 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The tentative agreement covers more than 2,000 Smith’s associates who work in 26 stores in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Farmington and the surrounding areas.

The UFCW will present the fully-recommended tentative agreement to its members for ratification during several meetings scheduled to start Monday, June 8 at various locations. Details of the tentative agreement are not being released pending ratification.

“Both Local 1564 and Smith’s came together and worked hard to reach an agreement that provides quality jobs, increased wages and affordable, quality health care for associates and their families. This tentative agreement also keeps Smith’s competitive in this marketplace,” said Jim Hallsey, president of Smith’s Food & Drug.
