KROGER’S WILLIAM BOEHM RECEIVES HONORARY DOCTORATE FROM PURDUE UNIVERSITY
Head of Kroger’s Manufacturing Division Cited for his Leadership in Agribusiness

CINCINNATI, Ohio, May 14, 2007 – William Boehm, senior vice president and president of manufacturing for The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR), was awarded an honorary Doctor of Agriculture from Purdue University on May 13 for his exceptional work in agricultural economics.

"Bill's work with the Center for Agribusiness and the Department of Food Science and his guidance over the years has been a tremendous asset for our departments, the college, and the university. He is an exemplary mentor and we appreciate all of his efforts in this important field," said Suzanne Nielsen, professor and head of the Department of Food Science at Purdue University.

Mr. Boehm joined Kroger in 1981 as Director of Economic Research and has since held several positions of increasing responsibility. As president of Kroger’s Manufacturing division, Mr. Boehm oversees 35 of the Company’s food processing plants, including the company’s dairies, bakeries, grocery products and beverage plants.

“We congratulate Bill on his latest honor and thank him for the insightful leadership he provides for all of us at Kroger,” said Don McGeorge, president and chief operating officer of Kroger.

Prior to joining Kroger, Mr. Boehm, who grew up on a dairy farm in Wisconsin, served as the senior economist for Food and Agriculture with the President’s Council of Economic Advisors from 1979 to 1981. He also served as a senior economist and research manager with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Wisconsin – River Falls and went on to earn a Master of Science degree and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Agricultural Economics from Purdue.
