KROGER TO PARTICIPATE IN J.P. MORGAN RETAILING CONFERENCE AND BANC OF AMERICA CONSUMER CONFERENCE THIS WEEK

CINCINNATI, OH, March 31, 2003 -- The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR) will participate in two investor conferences this week that will be broadcast live over the Internet.

Scott Henderson, Kroger vice president and treasurer, will speak at the J.P. Morgan 2003 Retailing Conference on Wednesday, April 2 at 3:45 p.m. (EST).

Michael Schlotman, Kroger group vice president and chief financial officer, will address investors at the Banc of America Consumer Conference on Thursday, April 3 at 8:50 a.m. (EST).

Both presentations will be broadcast live over the Internet at http://www.kroger.com/financialinfo_investorconferencecalls.htm. Click on Webcast Events to access the event. The presentations will be available in an archived format for one week following the conferences.
