SMITH’S
AND FOOD 4 LESS ASSOCIATES IN
LAS VEGAS RATIFY NEW LABOR
AGREEMENT
LAS VEGAS, Nev., February 6, 2009
– The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR) said
today that associates who are
members of United Food & Commercial
Workers Union Local 711 in Las Vegas
have ratified a new labor agreement
with the Company’s Smith’s and Food
4 Less divisions.
Jim Hallsey, president of Smith’s
Food and Drug, and Dave Hirz,
president of Food 4 Less said: “This
agreement maintains quality jobs and
affordable health care for our
associates and their families in
this challenging economy and keeps
our stores competitive.”
The agreement covers more than 2,800
Smith’s associates and 900 Food 4
Less associates who work in 47
stores in and around Las Vegas.
Kroger, one of the nation’s
largest retail grocery chains,
employs more than 320,000 associates
who serve customers in 2,477
supermarkets and multi-department
stores in 31 states. Kroger operates
stores under two dozen local banner
names including Kroger, Ralphs, Fred
Meyer, Food 4 Less, Fry’s, King
Soopers, Smith’s, Dillons, QFC and
City Market. In addition, Kroger
associates serve customers in 778
convenience stores, 392 fine jewelry
stores and 750 supermarket fuel
centers the Company operates. Kroger
