The Ralphs/Food 4 Less Foundation was founded in 1991 with a commitment to improving the quality of life in the communities served by Ralphs and Food 4 Less. The Foundation focuses on the needs of those living in areas served by Ralphs, Food 4 Less, and Foods Co stores. In 2005, the Foundation awarded $3.2 million to nonprofit organizations.

The Foundation's focuses in the following areas:

  • K-12 education and recreational programs;
  • Hunger-related programs;
  • Women's health;
  • Community-based projects; and
  • Assisting communities in the aftermath of local disasters.

Only proposals from 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations are considered for Ralphs/Food 4 Less Foundation grants. Eligible organizations may submit proposals at any time during the year. Proposals should include a letter of request and a thorough outline of the program, including the amount requested, how the funds will be used and whom they will serve, budget, funding sources, a copy of the tax-exempt determination letter from the IRS, and any other supporting materials.

The Ralphs/Food 4 Less Foundation is administered by the community relations department of the Ralphs Grocery Company under the direction of a Board of Trustees and an executive director.
