Thanks to you, more than $5 million in grants from The Fred Meyer Foundation have been awarded since December 1998 throughout Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Alaska!
What is The Fred Meyer Foundation?
The Fred Meyer Foundation is dedicated to enriching the quality of life in the communities where Fred Meyer stores operate and where our customers and associates live and work. We are guided by the belief that corporate citizenship is an essential component of our relationship with our customers and is our responsibility as a member of the communities of Oregon, Washington, Alaska and Idaho.

There are three sources of funding for The Fred Meyer Foundation:
- An invested endowment which generates interest that contributes to grants awarded each year.
- “Make Change Count,” our community partnership. Customers drop spare change into coin collection boxes at the check stands or add a $1 tax-deductible donation to their purchase with scan cards, also located at the check stands. All Make Change Count donations stay within the community in which they are made.
- The Employee Giving Campaign, an annual campaign during which Fred Meyer associates are offered the option of making donations through payroll deduction if they choose to.
- The Fred Meyer Foundation focuses grants on organizations that work toward youth development or hunger reduction. Grant recipients must be invited to apply by a Fred Meyer associate.
- The majority of grants from The Fred Meyer Foundation are awarded as Community Grants from our associates. Our associates know their communities best and can ensure that Foundation grants are going to the organizations and people who really need them.
- These grants are awarded by 29 Community Grant Advisory Committees comprised of Fred Meyer associates representing every store, warehouse, plant and office.
- Community Grants are awarded where the money is raised. All of the money collected through the Make Change Count program in our stores and much of the money raised through our Employee Giving Campaign is used for Community Grants to local nonprofit organizations.
-
Please note:
The Fred Meyer Foundation does not accept unsolicited letters of inquiry. The grant application is by invitation only, through a request for proposal process.
